CÉFFA delegates meet with Father Denis (above) and freshen up the walls of the seniors' residence in Boaca (below)
A journey of awareness and solidarity was organized by the Council of Francophone Catholic Faith Education in Alberta, CÉFFA. Seven Franco-Albertans from Edmonton, Donnely and St. Isidore participated in this journey hosted by FUNDACCO, the partner agent of Roots of Change Foundation.
The organized tour, which took place between January 24 and February 2, 2014, raised the participant’s awareness of the challenges faced by the residents of this developing country. The delegates attended several short conferences offered by specialists from various sectors: medical, agricultural, advanced education and community living. The presenters described the difficulties faced by the people due to their tumultuous past, as well as the recent accomplishments of the Nicaraguan Government and FUNDACCO.
The delegates then visited a number of projects managed by FUNDACCO, including a two-day stint painting the infirmary of a home for the elderly, Hogar de anciano Divina Misericordi, in the city of Boaco. In addition, the men in the group repaired the toilets at the seniors home. At their departure, the delegates presented a gift of $6,000 for other urgently needed improvements to the facility.
CÉFFA extends most sincere thanks to all the generous Alberta donors who contributed to this most worthwhile project. CÉFFA plans on organizing other awareness trips in the near future. Interested supporters are most welcome to join the delegation. For information contact the Roots of Change Foundation's Delegations Coordinator.
